Volunteer Trips

Church Mission Trips

In the summer months of June and July, AIR eagerly hosts volunteers from the US because this time is both convenient for most North Americans AND it is the season of afternoon rains when we need to get the tree seedlings quickly transplanted onto mountain slopes.  School programs are also active during those months and stoves always need to be built!

We have almost 20 years of experience in hosting exciting, exhausting, rewarding and spiritual weeks of volunteering. The size of the “group” varies from 2 people to 12 people—larger groups are problematic because of transportation issues and because we do not want to overwhelm communities with a crowd of new faces.  However, we are happy to do back-to-back weeks of 24 total if your church group so desires.

2015 DATES and PRICES (may be extended one week, based on requests): Saturday, May 30th – Saturday, June 6th
Saturday, June 6th – Saturday, June 13th
Saturday, June 13th – Saturday, June 20th
Saturday, June 20th – Saturday, June 27th
Saturday, June 27th – Thursday, July 2nd

COST:  Airfare + $700/person; $800/person if you select Lake Atitlan; and $500/person for last shorter trip.

Payment covers hotel, food, ground transportation and work materials—everything except your tourist day.  We will meet you at the airport in Guatemala and handle every detail from there!

You will stay in a secure, mountain retreat or lakeside hotel and spend days working side-by-side with Mayan farmers and visiting schools.  We will provide orientation material, including in-person if location permits. We have twenty years of experience in hosting mission teams—reviews at GreatNonProfits.org

If you'd like to chat with us and go into more detail or if you would like to reserve your week please contact us below or feel free to call us at 770-543-9529.

Service Orgs/Club Trips

If a group of volunteers prefers another time of year, such as over Thanksgiving or in January, we would consider that option, although it would not involve tree-planting.

University/College Trips

AIR's work in Sustainable Agriculture with indigenous farmers may be part of academic credit in a variety of academic fields, and we have hosted small classes of forestry students, political science students and graduates in international development.  The supervising professor may provide classes at the hotel, as well as learning in the field.  Academic lectures and readings on Sustainable Agriculture and Climate Change Resilience are available from Dr. Hallum for a small stipend.
